This is an photo of Whitepark Bay on the north coast taken in August 2011. Whitepark bay lies between Ballintoy and Bushmills and a youth hostel is located here. The beach is known for dangerous currents and sand shelfs so is not ideal for swimming but it is breathtaking on a good day. The area is rich in flint and it is here that neolithic man first settled in Ireland trading arrowheads and axes made from the rock. the area is owned by the National Trust and is rich in flora, orchids being common.
This picture was taken from the road and does not do justice to the view. Access is either by a steep climb down from the carpark or from Ballintoy, just two miles east though care must be taken when walking the shoreline due to the tides.
